Nothing in the realm of the high-end car collections can match the legendary garage of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei. This private fleet is worth over five billion dollars and consists of over 7,000 cars and is the largest car collection in the world. It was constructed with vast amounts of money of oil and gas revenues of Brunei and represents a passion which transcends the aspects of luxury well beyond it.

The reason this collection is unmatched in the world

  • Biggest personal motorcar collection
  • Worth of approximately over 5 billion
  • More than 7,000 vehicles privately owned
  • Financed with the oil and gas fortunes of Brunei
  • Rare, concept cars, and bespoke cars are included

It is not only the volume of this collection that is remarkable but the secrecy and uniqueness. Behind closed doors, the garage has cars that most of the enthusiasts have never even seen in magazines. The Sultan and the Prince Jefri commissioned manufacturers to make unique cars that had never been sold in the market. The collection is a one of the few eras when limitless affluence influenced the history of automobiles backstage.

1. Bugatti EB110 Super Sport

Upon the resurrection of its brand in 1990s, the EB110 Super Sport came out as a technological wonder. It used a 3.5-liter V12 which was quad-turbocharged making it one of the fast cars at the time with 603 horsepower. Having been constructed in the world only in 39 examples, the EB110 SS was immediately turned into the dream of a collector, pushing the limits of speed and technical perfection.

Bestsellers: Sultan EB110 Fleet

  • Four EB110 Super Sports owned
  • Top speed exceeding 221 mph
  • Rare quad-turbo V12 engine
  • There are three conventional color options
  • A single tailor made design

It is the fourth custom-built example which makes the Sultan Bugatti really stand out. Chassis 39013 includes dramatic stripes in black with multicolor disegno on the base together with extreme customization of the interior. The cabin has a unique combination of upholstery; black, yellow, blue, green, and red. This single specification is an ideal example of the royal family preference of exclusivity and unapologetic individuality.

2. McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 is one of the most glorified super cars ever to be developed. It is the owner of the world fastest naturally aspirated production car and it embodies engineering purity and innovation. The F1 is the only car that has reached mythical status among collectors with only 106 units in the world. The prices of its auctions which have been over 20 million dollars, only enhance its legendary image in the history of automobiles.

McLaren F1s In the Royal Garage

  • Total of ten McLaren F1s
  • Five standard road cars
  • One track-focused F1 GTR
  • One ultra-rare F1 GT
  • Three exclusive F1 LM models

The customization is what is unique about the Sultan McLaren collection. Although F1 LMs were to be painted in Historic Orange, two Brunei displays had special liveries. These minor, but important modifications indicate how even the most sacred rules of McLaren were still bent to the advantage of the royal family, which confirmed their unparalleled power over the elite car manufacturers throughout the 1990s.

3. Ferrari F40

The F40, done to celebrate the 40 th anniversary of Ferrari, was rough, noisy and unapologetic. It took away the comfort and gave pure emphasis on performance. The garage of the Sultan has astounding and eleven examples, and it is among the largest individual collections of F40. However, the radical transformation that some of these cars have been through is what makes this fleet so elevated.

The Specials of the Sultan F40s

  • Eleven Ferrari F40s owned
  • Seven road cars much modified
  • Pininfarina custom interiors
  • Comfort added features never heard
  • Right-hand-drive conversions

Seven F40s were also luxury-attentioned, having air-conditioning, electric windows, radios and adjustable steering wheels under the watch of Pininfarina. Such changes were in opposition to the original Ferrari philosophy, but they were fitting the taste of the royals. Also, there were two rare F40 LM race cars. Others have since moved to state ownership, and this has left them the legacy of the customized Ferrari handwork.

4. Ferrari 456 GT

Ferrari 456 GT had a special place to the Sultan as seen by the number he acquired. It has been reported that his 456 collection alone was worth up to 15 million dollars. This is dozens of cars bearing in mind the individual market prices. Two of the most technologically bold Ferraris were also among them, and they pushed the limit to something out of the ordinary luxury.

Why the Ferrari 456 GT Stood Out

  • Huge amount in possession of the Sultan
  • Collection estimated to be worth almost 15 million
  • Grand touring design, elegant
  • Luxury performance V12 powered
  • Experimental technology ground

The most interesting ones were the Night Vision 456 GTs. These vehicles had military infra-red cameras which enabled car users to drive without headlights in pitch darkness. The trunk was filled with rotating cameras mounted on the roof and technology based on helicopters. The Ferrari was turned into a surveillance masterpiece way before its time, with live footage being shown on several screens inside.

5. Rolls-Royce Collection

There is nothing that reflects the car passion of the Sultan more than his collection of Rolls-Royce vehicles. His collection of more than 500 Rolls-Royce cars is on a Guinness World Record. In the 1990s, almost half the total global Rolls-Royce and Bentley car sales are rumored to have been sold directly to the royal family in Brunei, a record purchase in the history of the luxury automobile industry.

Dimensions of the Royal Rolls-Royce Fleet

  • Over 500 Rolls-Royce vehicles
  • Guinness World Record achiever
  • More than several custom made models
  • Massive 1990s acquisition spree
  • Custom wedding commissions

Some of the attractions include custom Phantom VI Cloudesque and a mythical Silver Spur II stretch. The limo was done using 24-carat gold as it was commissioned to the wedding of the Sultan. It was estimated at 14 million dollars and represented the ultimate of luxury and handcrafted design and it changed the concept of luxury in its car style.

6. Bentley Dominator

The Bentley Dominator was commissioned in 1990s before the mainstream luxury SUVs were developed. This revolutionary initiative was several decades ahead of the contemporary icons such as the Bentayga. The Dominator, which was exclusively made in the royal family, proved that luxury, size and off-road capability can be united together, and it gave the format on a completely new type of vehicle.

The Bentley Dominator Revolution

  • Precursor to luxury SUVs
  • Only constructed to house the royalty
  • Manufactured in very few quantities
  • Together luxury and off-road
  • Remains largely secret

The Dominators were made in very small numbers, about half a dozen, each according to the royal requirements. The model was never supposed to be sold publicly but it proved the ability of the Sultan to redefine the direction of the automotive. To this day, its specification is not known, which adds to mystery. The Dominator is an eloquent innovator who changed the build of luxury SUVs well before the world realized its possibilities.

7. Bentley Silverstone

Bentley Silverstone is an exceptional engineering and bespoke automobile. Constructed between the years 1994 and 1995, there were only eight cars manufactured specifically to be used by the Brunei royal family. It was one of the most interesting low-volume projects that Bentley planned that was designed by Hawtal Whiting and made by ASC in Detroit.

The Bentley Silverstone Defining Traits

  • Only eight units ever built
  • Exclusive royal commission
  • It was constructed using Continental R chassis
  • International design cooperation
  • Uniqueness in body design, three positioning

The Silverstone was powered by the twin-turbo L-Series engine by Bentley and it was the most flexible. It had three-position body that enabled it to change it into a convertible, Coupe and Sedanca. This ingenuity of engineering was influenced by the fact Sultan wanted cars that were not only uncommon, but technologically imaginative and operationally exceptional throughout the Bentley legend.

8. Ferrari F90

The history of Ferrari F90 is the story of secrecy and radical rebellion. Pininfarina constructed six cars in the late 1980s secretly commissioned by Prince Jefri and without official Ferrari approval. The F90 is one of the most debatable and intriguing cars related to the brand, as Ferrari heard of the project only years after.

Why Ferrari F90 is Legendary

  • Anonymously funded project
  • Constructed without the consent of Ferrari
  • Only six units produced
  • Designed by Pininfarina
  • According to Testarossa platform

Constructed in Testarossa frame, Targa-bodywork and 390 horsepower, the F90. The design of it was by Enrico Fumia and it represented the unparalleled power of the Brunei royalties. This illegitimate Ferrari is still a strong representation of the meeting of rich and desire to obtain a car that should have no existence whatsoever officially.

9. Ferrari FX

The Ferrari FX was a publicly commissioned custom car as opposed to the secretive F90, which was produced in the specifications desired by the Sultan. The 1995-1996 model shows the desire by Ferrari to make one-off models to its wealthiest customers. The FX occupies a shroudy place in the history of Ferrari, more of legend than history.

What is Special about Ferrari FX

  • Commissioned openly by Ferrari
  • Constructed solely on behalf of the Sultan
  • Mid-engine bespoke design
  • Very low production
  • Rarely documented publicly

Very little has been known about the FX which adds to its mystique. It was a bottom-up design, unlike modified models of production. The fact that it exists demonstrates that even the strict traditions in Ferrari could be compromised in the case of extraordinary clients. In the present world, the FX is presently considered to be one of the fewest Ferraris ever built and it is buried somewhere deep in the Brunei collection.

10. BMW Nazca C2

There is expansion into concept cars also, such as the BMW Nazca C2. This impressive idea was never meant to be owned by the people according to Nazca M12. It was just a pure declaration of design, stating future aspirations of BMW and technical design in early 1990s concept car world.

Why the Nazca C2 Matters

  • Uncommon acquisition of concept BMW
  • Never sold to the public
  • Based on Nazca M12
  • Displaying car design art
  • Preserved as history

The fact that the Nazca C2 is found makes the collection look museum-like. It does not only maintain speed and luxuriousness, but it maintains development of design. Purchasing concept cars, the Sultan had turned his garage into a personal museum of automotive innovation that housed machines that would be the sole machines most enthusiasts would be able to see in the far corners of an auto show stage.
